VD Apartment is the smallest apartment located in Madrid, Spain, designed by Francesc Rifé Studio. In the design, it is best to explain the use of dark colors through light. The large windows surrounding this apartment in central Madrid allow the studio to balance its brightness with the warmth of almost black stained oak.

/  DESIGN DESCRIPTION /

The layout sequence of VD starts with an open kitchen, and the rest of the house is connected unobstructed or intermittently through grids and sliding systems that hide or reveal different environments. Therefore, traditional corridors are avoided, making all rooms livable rather than transitional. To be precise, one of the large fences displayed a large shelf or a gym installed in the center of the project. At this point, additional grids are used, together with sandblasted optical glass, to connect this space with the living room through light and shadow.

Following the same color language, the night area accommodates a room prefaced by a large dressing room. The kit has important composition gestures. For example, it is used as a headboard for a desk or a dressing table integrated between the cabinets.

These spaces are activated by unique furniture, such as the Flos Taccia lamp designed by the Castiglioni brothers, the iconic Cassina armchair: Utrecht, Capital Complex or Charlotte Perriand's Indochine chair. The strong graphic expression of this kind of furniture, together with its texture and finish, brings a certain enthusiasm for the sobriety that people desire.

His domestic and international projects range from interior design to industrial design, architecture, concept creation, installation, graphics and art direction. During his career, Rifé has won awards from the design field, such as Contract World, Red Dot, ICFF Editors, Chicago's HiP, FAD, and multiple ASCER awards. His works have been widely published in general media and professional publications and books worldwide. Also, there are several published books that collect his most outstanding works. Currently, he works and presides over seminars and conferences.
