The Urban Scenario in a Mountainside Stacked Villa ——Tonglu Tianyang Cloud Mountainside Villa
The project features the central level, the 3-4 floors, of a 6-storey mountainside stacked villa. The 4th floor, accessed from the independent entrance, serves as the area for guest reception and family gathering, while the 3rd floor is the separate bedroom area.
The design of the porch emphasizes the unique ritual sense of “coming home”. The top surface of the porch, with a dark color texture, is pressed down to reveal the otherwise blocked wall. Transparent thin glass, as well as blocks that carry with them a high sculptural sense, invite the light to shine in, creating a natural enclosure and partition for the route leading to the living and dining room and the stairs.
Walk several steps forward along the kitchen sidewall decorated with wood finishes, and one will enter the living and dining room with great views. The lounge area enclosed by sofas provides an opportunity to appreciate mountain views outside of the window, forming up a good relationship with outdoor surroundings. The dining room and living room exist harmoniously in the frame of the floor-length French window.
The feature wall of the living room has received unique and interesting treatment - the rectangle coffee table in the lower part gives a highly sculptural impression, as if it “grows” out of the floor; a protruding platform at the corner of the stairs is leveraged to address the need of a secondary stair handrail. This represents killing three birds with one stone: not only the two problems are solved with the design, but the sculptural expression is also taken into account.
The 3rd floor can be accessed through the stairs or the elevator. The corridor is a kernel space without natural lighting. How to organize lighting and break the sense of separation between rooms is a crucial problem. We thickened and broke up the wall of the master bedroom to create a “light leakage” to light up the corridor, along with the opportunity to place a “L-shaped” book cabinet.
No partition is set up between the master bedroom and the study, so that a continuous space encompassing the open cloakroom and well-ventilated master bathroom can be formed.
Architectural furniture allows for an integration of the bed and cabinet in the children's bedroom, giving rise to a well- and rationally-organized space where children can find shelter in a safe, comfortable and interesting place.
